Central Texas Flash Flood Tragedy: 70 Dead, 11 Girls Still Missing at Camp Mystic

Central Texas — The devastating floods that have swept through Central Texas have claimed nearly 70 lives, leaving families and local communities in mourning. The latest figures show that 59 of the fatalities were recorded in Kerr County , the hardest-hit area.

One of the biggest tragedies occurred at Camp Mystic , an all-girls summer camp located near the Guadalupe River. To date, 11 teenage girls are still missing , and rescue efforts continue relentlessly. Search and rescue teams face significant challenges due to the strong currents and thick mud that has covered much of the camp.

Initial reports say three bodies have been found of North Texas girls who were participants at Camp Mystic. Their identities have not been officially released by authorities, pending identification and notification of families.

The flash floods followed several days of heavy rain in Central Texas. The high water levels caused rivers to overflow, inundating homes, roads, and campgrounds. Local authorities declared a state of emergency and urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas.

Authorities and volunteers continue to work diligently on the ground. Search and rescue (SAR) operations have been expanded, including the use of boats and sniffer dogs, as well as helicopter support. Meanwhile, families of the victims and those still missing gather at emergency aid posts, hoping for good news.

The tragedy is a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness, especially during the rainy season. Many citizens and humanitarian organizations have raised funds to help flood victims, providing food, temporary shelter, and psychological support.
