Caitlin Clark Makes History, But Indiana Fever Loses to Atlanta Dream

Caitlin Clark continued her impressive start to the 2025 WNBA season with a stellar performance on Tuesday (5/21). Despite setting a personal record and making history in the process, the Indiana Fever youngster was unable to prevent her team from suffering its first loss of the season against the Atlanta Dream.

The match held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, was a showcase for Clark. She scored 28 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds, becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record more than 25 points and 5 assists in three consecutive games at the start of the season.

Unfortunately, Clark's efforts were not enough to match the solid collective play of the Atlanta Dream throughout the match. With tight defense and effective player rotation, the Dream managed to shut down the movement of other Indiana players and won with a final score of 87-79.

"Clark was great, as usual, but we have to be a better team overall," said the Indiana Fever head coach in his post-game press conference. "We're still in the process of building chemistry and rhythm as a unit."

On the other hand, Atlanta Dream performed consistently with a big contribution from Rhyne Howard who scored 24 points and 6 rebounds. Their fast play and good ball control were the keys in dampening the aggressiveness of Clark and his friends.

While the loss was the first blemish on the Indiana Fever’s season, many felt that Caitlin Clark’s performance showed great potential to take the team further. The season is still long, and the young star is expected to continue to be a major highlight in the 2025 WNBA landscape.
